Introduction These proceedings cover the eighth meeting of the Visual Data Exploration and Analysis Conference. This year's conference continued the process of increasing the paper quality and continued the requirement that authors submit extended 2 page abstracts. We're sure you'll find the papers in these proceedings enlightening and of high quality. This year's conference consisted of 28 reviewed papers as well as 2 invited papers. The papers cover an impressive array of topics across a diverse spectrum of visualization and were divided into 10 sessions, each covering a different topic area. The invited presentations were given by John Tourtelott from Raytech Systems who discussed "Internet-based out-of-core flow visualization" and Lambertus Hesselink from Stanford University who discussed "Visualization of vector and tensor fields and quantitative comparisons". We must acknowledge SPIE for their support of the conference, the program committee for the review of submissions, and those who assisted in advertising the conference. We would be remorse if we did not acknowledge the effort of Jeanne Anderson from SPIE who put enormous effort into our as well as many other conferences and helped contribute to their success. We hope you appreciate the effort the authors have made on their papers and enjoy their contributions to the field of visualization. Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have and we're certain the authors would be willing to receive any praise you might wish to bestow. Conference
